Valóban, 1813-ban Napóleon I. bárói rangra emelte Nicolas Ponsardin-t. Ez a rang lehetőséget adott számára, hogy saját címere legyen.

Why sardines? Besides being a lovely pairing for bubbly, the canned seafood treat has long enjoyed a humorous association with Veuve Clicquot. Indeed, in 1813, Nicolas Ponsardin was elevated to the rank of baron by napoleon 1st.
This status gave him the right to have its own coat of arms.
At the time, and with a sense of self-mockery, he decided to choose a bridge topped with a sardine: ‘pon (t) sardin (e)’ (litteraly in french ‘bridge sardine’). Subsequently, his daughter, Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, became the famous “Veuve Clicquot”.
That is why the famous Champagne House has decided to launch the original box to celebrate this important moment for the brand.
