Perrier-Jouët “Belle Époque” Champagne Ice Bucket in Emerald Green Glass with Hand-Painted Bottle
An iconic piece from the Champagne Perrier-Jouët house (founded in 1811), this “Belle Époque” model champagne ice bucket represents the heritage of one of the world’s most renowned Champagne maisons. Made of emerald green molded glass, this ice bucket dates from the 1960s and features refined floral motifs inspired by the Art Nouveau style of Émile Gallé.
The ice bucket is accompanied by a standard 0.75 L bottle that progressed through the production process up to the hand-painting stage. However, it was never filled or labeled, meaning it never contained Champagne. This is not an emptied bottle, but an unused piece prepared in the painting workshop and ultimately not put into circulation. The bottle is decorated with the beautiful Japanese anemone motif that has become synonymous with Perrier-Jouët.
In 1902, Octave Gallice commissioned Émile Gallé to design a bottle for the Perrier-Jouët selection. This resulted in the famous bottle adorned with Japanese anemones, created to represent the House.
In 1964, André Baveret, then cellar master, rediscovered four uniquely sized magnum bottles hand-painted by Émile Gallé. This discovery marked the birth of the legendary floral cuvée, Cuvée Belle Époque, as well as the design of this champagne ice bucket, decorated with Art Nouveau floral motifs inspired by Gallé. Since then, this motif has been continuously used on Belle Époque bottles and has become a defining element of the maison’s visual identity.
