Piper-Heidsieck Champagne – Art Deco pezsgőhűtő, 1920–1930-as évek – ELADÓ

Az 1920–1930-as évekre datálható, Art Deco stílusú, francia Piper-Heidsieck pezsgőhűtő, krómozott rézötvözetből. Masszív, vastag falú kialakítású, 1,8 kg tömegű darab, amelyet a korabeli vendéglátásban történő rendszeres használatra terveztek.

Kialakítás és díszítés

A hengeres test felső és alsó részén párhuzamos, körbefutó, domború bordázat található. Az elülső, keretezett, finoman strukturált felületű mezőben háromsoros, domborműves márkajelzés olvasható:

CHAMPAGNE – PIPER-HEIDSIECK – REIMS

A korabeli francia pezsgőhűtőket különböző fémáruüzemek készítették a champagne-házak megrendelésére. Ezek közé tartozott a párizsi ARGIT is.

Piper-Heidsieck Champagne – Art Deco Champagne Cooler, 1920s–1930s, Chrome-Plated Copper Alloy, France

Art Deco-style Piper-Heidsieck champagne cooler, attributed to the 1920s–1930s, made from chrome-plated copper alloy. Featuring thick-walled construction and weighing 1.8 kg, this substantial piece was designed for regular use in the hospitality industry.

Design and Decoration

The cylindrical body features several parallel, raised horizontal bands around its upper and lower sections. The front has a framed panel with a finely textured surface and a three-line inscription in raised lettering:

CHAMPAGNE – PIPER-HEIDSIECK – REIMS

The lettering is integrated into the metalwork rather than painted or applied separately.

The two cast side handles are decorated with grape leaves and grape clusters, reflecting the winemaking traditions of the Champagne region.

The geometric ribbing, symmetrical construction and prominent lettering reflect the Art Deco design language of the 1920s and 1930s.

The thick metal construction and weight of nearly 2 kg provide stability and durability.

Piper-Heidsieck: History and Market Position

Founded in Reims in 1785, Piper-Heidsieck is one of France’s historic champagne houses. By the early 20th century, the brand had established an international reputation and developed export markets.

During the 1920s, champagne remained closely associated with hotels, restaurants and social occasions. However, the reconstruction following the First World War, American Prohibition and the economic crisis beginning in 1929 presented significant challenges for the French champagne industry.

During this period, branded champagne coolers served both practical and promotional purposes. In addition to keeping champagne chilled during service, they displayed the names of champagne houses directly on restaurant and hotel tables.

Manufacture and Origin

Period French champagne coolers were produced by various metalworking companies commissioned by champagne houses. These included the Paris-based manufacturer ARGIT.

There is no manufacturer’s mark on the underside of this example, so the exact maker cannot be confirmed. The attribution to the 1920s–1930s is based on its design and construction.

Condition

Good vintage condition, with no visible structural damage.

The exterior chrome-plated surface shows minor scratches, signs of use and some areas of discoloration. The interior has developed a patina, with darker oxidation marks visible on the base and inner walls.

Both decorated handles, the horizontal ribbing and the raised lettering are intact. No dents or structural deformation are visible in the photographs.
